The What: Stitch and Ani! I love doverstar's interpretation of Stitch! the anime's Ani, Lilo's look-alike daughter. Doverstar's idea hinges on an alternate ending to "the Lilo episode", in which Stitch, Jumba, and Pleakly return to Hawaii with Lilo (all grown up) and Ani to live with Nani, David, and their son, Kai. That's what this scene is. In one of doverstar's new fan arts "Getting to Know Ani", she says that Lilo made her seven year-old a little homemade doll in the image of Stitch, since Ani grew up hearing stories about her mother's childhood best friend. That's what Ani's holding here.
The Why: I thought that this might motivate my twin to quit DRAWING so much and start WRITING the fanfics! Let's face it, there are so few (not NONE, just FEW) good Lilo and Stitch fanfics, and almost none that resolve the piteous ending (and over all plothole) of the heinous anime's 'Lilo Episode'. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, bless you.
The How: I still suck at drawing humans, even if they are Chris Sanders humans, so I got Ani's pose from a few original Lilo concept arts. Stitch, on the other hand, had his pose inspired by a storybook that made me think 'amused' and 'curious'. Whatcha think? Am I getting better at Mr. Cute and Fluffy? His coloring was taken from screenshots of the first movie, where he looks the best, of course, and Ani's was derived from doverstar's art. I didn't pencil-and-paper sketch these before scanning them in; that's why they look a little wobbly. It's all finger-drawing on my iPad. The background is, of course, a screenshot.
The Problem: I actually think I did pretty well. I don't know if I like Stitch's expression, Ani looks equally bland, and don't talk to me about her feet and legs. I just—GAH. I know how I WANT it to look! I just don't know how to DO it. I do love the doll, though. I think I nailed that.
